Salt Lake Cemetery

Sariah, myself and our 10 kids headed downtown yesterday morning for a fun adventure. We did get a few stares as we walked a few blocks in Salt Lake. I think the onlookers were trying to make out the adults among the sea of kids (ages ranging from 9 years down to 8 months). We didn't loose anybody and managed to have a good time all in the same outing.

First we stopped at the Church History Museum for their "Child of God" exhibit. If is a fun interactive section with tons of kids activities and games to play. The kids spent almost an hour playing and had a great time.

After the museum we headed into the Avenues to check out the Salt Lake Cemetery. There are over 120,000 people buried there. It was huge and really beautiful. There are many famous religious leaders and politicians buried there. There are 10 Latter-Day Prophets buried there as well as people like Porter Rockwell, J. Golden Kimball,Bruce R. McConkie and Orson Pratt. The famous Christmas Box Statue is also there. We had lunch in front of President and Sister Hinckley's grave stones and family marker then used the map provided by the cemetery to search out the many other beloved prophets. Isaac and Gideon insisted on being in charge of navigating and really enjoyed it.

All in all, it was a fun adventure to some new places for the kids to enjoy!!

  1. What a great idea. I might have to keep that one in mind. And it looks like the weather even participated.

  2. I'm always looking for free things to do with the kids ... this looks great! I'm glad I'm not the only only one crazy enough to take my kids out. You guys are awesome. BTW if you are looking for something else to do the guy that does all the Eye Spy pictures has an exhibit in the basement of the BYU art museum. We're going to try to hit that and the Bean museum for our next fun day I think.

  3. What a fun day! I'm surprised you got stares from people with all those kids...I would have thought the Utahns would be accustomed to that kind of thing... hmmm. At least you didn't get asked "Are those ALL yours?" or "You're done now, right?"...that's usually what we get around here... :)
